I always thought that giving back was a nice thing to do for others, never did I expect to receive something in return. Last month, a group of 17 led by brother Bob Spears, representing Cornerstone, Church traveled 120 miles south to Tijuana, Mexico. Tijuana has a population of over three million and more than 60

percent are single mothers. As a result, a number of residents live in extreme poverty and are unable to afford basic needs. Hand-in-hand, with our affiliate church led by Pastor Guillermo Ortega Gonzalez, we served as a catalyst to one of the many neighborhoods in dire need by hosting a health fair at a local park.

The health fair brought together five churches of different denominations to join forces and create a space to help the under served. The leadership of Bob and the Pastors, along with the many volunteers allowed us to deliver services to over 800 attendees. We fed 200 families, gifted more than 200 pairs of reading glasses and conducted numerous physical checkups. In addition to the services provided, our brother Rodrigo passionately preached the gospel in Spanish, told the crowd about the love of God and at the time of the invitation over two dozen people stepped forward to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Our work on site lasted approximately six hours, the preparation took over a month and the impact that we made will forever remain.

This is the first time that I have the opportunity to go back to my city of origin and serve. I thought I was going to give back but never anticipated the satisfaction I would receive. God has a perfect way of utilizing us as instruments to help others. I was helping at the Reading Glasses station, the line seemed endless as people waited for hours to get a pair of glasses. Some wanted the glasses to read their bibles, others to see what they were sewing and one lady in particular just wanted to see where she was walking. The feeling of giving back is indescribable. Children’s faces would light up the minute they tried on the correct pair of glasses and the elders smiled from ear to ear, the same way that you smile when you have a piece of your favorite dessert. Because of your support I was given the opportunity to receive the blessing to see the joy in the most vulnerable population.

Whether you contributed financially or with prayers, we, as a group would like to express our gratitude. Your generous support has given us the blessing of having this opportunity and I would like to challenge all of you to one day experience the same blessing first hand.
