Hey Everyone! Meet Mark, Jeremy, and Hannah

For the past five years, Cornerstone youth ministry has been blessed with a partnership with the Christian Ministries Department at Biola University. Our partnership has allowed multiple students like these three to come and intern here at Cornerstone Church in youth ministry over the years. The outstanding partnership has even produced highly qualified staff for our youth department in both Simon Viss and Philip Breaux. Simon, Philip, and every other intern, past and present, has brought an incredible sense of passion and love not only for students but for Jesus Christ. Their dedication to grow alongside us and endure a grueling semester of college is a testament to their love for vocational ministry. These interns not only get a real world example of ministry in action, but they bring with them a fresh pair of eyes in which their contribution to the ministry is needed. We, as a youth ministry, would never be able to have interns coming through our ministry if our minds and hearts were not open to change and to the realization that everyone should have a voice.

These interns are a blessing because they come in ready to make a change for these students’ lives in the best ways possible. Biola’s program, of which we are among the select few that have the opportunity to partner, shapes and prepares these students in the classroom and understands the need to get the students out of the classroom and into ministry in order to shape a well rounded education.

These interns who complete an internship have a great advantage over those who don’t. They learn how to apply the knowledge that they have gained in the classroom into the local body of believers. Internships give them the chance to test-run the knowledge that they have gained while learning new skills in the process. Moreover, internships give them the chance to learn more about the ministry they’re interested in which is impossible to learn fully within a classroom. Of course, having technical skills is important; however, skills like leadership and collaboration that they are given through this partnership are very valuable. Finally, this partnership offers opportunities for them to work with others. They might be assigned to a team of other interns or they might even get to create their own programs in our team-based youth ministry. Working as a team can help them learn how to divide tasks and collaborate to achieve a specific goal. While we all work as a team, God gets the glory in all that we accomplish together. I appreciate these interns and all the interns we have had over the years not only for their contribution but for their hearts for ministry that expand into these students. So if you see them around at Cornerstone, make sure you greet them with a warm heart and thank them for their amazing efforts in reaching our students with the love and truth of the Gospel.
